Education: The key to real change

At Visual City we are excited to talk to Luzcarime Figari, CEO of ACEPTA, an institution that has been working tirelessly for more than 25 years for the welfare of the Peruvian community. ACEPTA was born with the mission to educate and accompany the population, providing tools and creating spaces for personal development and emotional support.

The history of ACEPTA began in 2000, when a group of professionals came together with a clear objective: to offer scientific and quality information to the community. They began their work in schools, designing programs for parents, teachers and students, with a special focus on the prevention of alcohol and drug use in minors. Over time, their work expanded throughout the country, reaching more than 5,000 schools and also working with universities, businesses and municipalities.

Accepta stands out for its science-based interventions, tailored to the needs of different communities, and for its focus on social education, promoting skills and positive change. Its success is reflected in the trust and bond with educational institutions, as well as in the positive impact on the lives of the participants. ACEPTA's greatest achievement to date has been the strong bond of affection and trust they have established with educational institutions. This bond, built on respect and cooperation, has allowed ACEPTA to continue to be a valuable presence in the lives of many young people, parents and teachers, creating spaces for social development that are deeply valued.

What makes ACEPTA unique is its ability to adapt and evolve with the needs of society, addressing current issues such as the correct use of technology and mental health. For 2024, ACEPTA sets itself a new challenge: to form coalitions with businesses, municipalities and communities, because, as Luzcarime mentions, "unity is strength." At ACEPTA, they are committed to reaching where they are needed most, creating a lasting impact on the well-being of all.

Luzcarime tells us about how young people spontaneously join ACEPTA when they see other young people already committed to the cause. This enthusiasm to be part of the change, to fight for the mental health and well-being of other young people, is what drives many to say, "I want to be there too, I want to be an example too."

At ACEPTA, they know that the impact they achieve in Peruvian communities would not be possible without the unconditional support of private enterprise. Thanks to the alliances and agreements they have established, they have been able to expand and take our programs to thousands of schools throughout the country. However, there is still much to be done, and we need to join more efforts.

Companies are not only economic engines, but also agents of social change. Many are already collaborating with us, not only by funding programs, but by actively engaging in the well-being of their employees and the communities around them. We invite all companies, large and small, to join our cause. There is always a way to help, and together we can design programs that truly transform lives.

"What we really seek is to create spaces for personal development, for social learning where people, whether they are parents, students, children, young people or adults, develop tools to face life. Thanks to Repsol, since 2007 we started working in schools in Mi Perú and from there we grew in such a way that today we are in 160 schools, being the most important link the relationship between the community of Ventanilla, Repsol and ACEPTA".

"Educating is the key to a better future. From teaching how to take care of the planet to promoting responsible sex life, the possibilities are endless when we work as a team. A prime example is our alliance with Repsol, with whom we have created a solid bond in Ventanilla and other vulnerable communities, developing educational and environmental programs that are making a real difference." Luzcarime tells us how thanks to Repsol they have been able to develop two programs: "Growing Together" and "Earth Ambassadors".

Growing Together is a values training program aimed at teachers, parents and students, where practical tools are provided to manage emotions and relieve stress, allowing them to improve their daily work. For its part, Earth Ambassadors seeks to promote environmental care, involving children, youth and adolescents in the district of Ventanilla and thus becoming agents of change in their communities.

If you have ever felt the desire to make a difference in your community, ACEPTA opens the doors for you to join its noble mission.
