However, the business model turned out not to be sustainable. "We had to make the difficult decision to close our stores and practically send the company into bankruptcy," shares founder Valery Zevallos. It was a period of deep reflection and learning. Overcoming the imposter syndrome and holding on to the brand's social program were key to getting back on their feet. This process allowed them to rebuild Estrafalario with a renewed vision and a firmer foundation. International Collaborations and Recognitions 2023 marked a renaissance for Estrafalario, with achievements that underscore its impact and innovation. Among its milestones, a collaboration with Adidas stands out, participating in the launch of new sneakers. In addition, the brand became a supplier of the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM), integrating into its value chain with products that prioritize environmental and social awareness. This contract not only strengthened the company's economic sustainability, but also enabled more than 17 trainings on topics such as empowerment, entrepreneurship and finance for internal women, enriching its social program. Another dream come true was her participation in Paris Fashion Week. "It was like my dream come true, presenting all the wonders we do with the inmates," Valery expresses excitedly. In addition, the opening of a new market in Japan proved that Estrafalario's handcrafted designs can resonate in technologically advanced cultures, thanks to their connection with the natural and ancestral. And as a next step, in February 2024, the brand will present its winter collection in New York. Commitment to Sustainability One of the most significant learnings for Estrafalario has been that economic sustainability is essential to meeting its social and environmental goals. The brand recognizes that it is on a path toward sustainability, working to balance its environmental impact with a sound financial structure.
